Deeper In the Word – 8/28/12 – 1 Tim 4:10
1 Tim 4:10 For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.
1) Labor – Greek word is kopiaó meaning: Work hard even to the point of exhaustion.
2) Suffer Reproach – Greek word is agónizomai meaning: to struggle, like engaged in an intense athletic contest or warfare
Trusting in God doesn’t mean we won’t have to diligently contend for the things God has promised us. In fact, we learn from this verse that our contending must be like one who is intending to win an intense athletic contest or even a war. The good news is our burden is the Lord’s. All we have to do is lay our life down joyfully and keep saying yes to God and we will win this battle easily.
