Praying Daily for the Elections – Day 2 – 9/19/12

Fifty Days of Prayer for the National Election 2012 – Day 2
Focus: The spiritual condition of our nation.
“We must repent of our sins and seek spiritual renewal for our nation before it’s too late… God deals with us as gently as He can or as harshly as He must. If America does not repent of our self-sufficiency, He will be forced to reveal even more decisively our need for His help and grace.
“When our sons were growing up, my wife consistently encouraged them to ‘live a life God can bless.’ In light of our moral and spiritual trajectory, can God bless America? You and I cannot do much to influence 300 million Americans today. But since awakening must begin somewhere with someone, we can resolve that moral and spiritual renewal will begin with us. A great evangelist was asked how revival begins. His answer: Go home, draw a circle around yourself, and pray until everything inside that circle is right with God. When it is, revival will be upon us.”
(Dr. Jim Denison, President of Denison Forum)
“Make the hearts of these people stubborn! Plug up their ears. Close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes. They might hear with their ears. They might understand with their hearts. And they might turn to Me and be healed.” (Isaiah 6: 10)
They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends thema powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie. (2 Thess. 2: 10-11)
Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. (Luke 8: 12)
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. (Rom. 1: 28)
O God, You are our God,
We earnestly search for You. Our souls thirst for You; our bodies wholly long for You in this parched and weary land where there is no water. We have seen You in the sanctuary and gazed upon Your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better to us than life itself. We will honor You as long as we live, lifting up our hands to You in prayer. We will praise You with songs of joy. We lie awake thinking of You, meditating on You through the night. We think how much You have helped us; we sing for joy in the shadow of Your protecting wings. We follow closely behind You; Your strong right hand holds us securely. Those plotting to destroy us will come to ruin… We will rejoice in God. All who trust in Him will praise Him, while liars will be silenced. Psalm 63 (NLT)
[Satan] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8: 44) The devil has blinded the minds of many of our countrymen. Like the blind, they grope along the wall, feeling their way like men without eyes. At midday they stumble as if it were twilight; among the strong, they are like the dead. (Isaiah 59: 10) The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, Who is the image of God. (2 Cor. 4: 4) The lost have eyes that are bad, so that their whole body is full of darkness. If then the light within them is darkness, how great is that darkness! (Matt. 6: 23) Their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. (2 Cor. 3: 14) They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. (Eph. 4: 18)
The Light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. (John 1: 5)
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. (John 3: 19) They know nothing, they understand nothing. (Psalm 82: 5) The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. (Prov. 4: 19)
O God, we tremble for our nation!
You have pronounced: woe to them who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever. (Isaiah 5: 21) Once more You will astound those people filled with self-pride with wonder upon wonder. The wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish. (Isaiah 29: 14) Men have trusted in their wickedness and have said, ‘No one sees me.’ Their wisdom and knowledge misleads them when they say, ‘I am, and there is none besides me.’ (Isaiah 47: 10) Although they claim to be wise, they become fools. (Romans 1: 22) For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in Your sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” (1 Cor. 3: 19-20) Such wisdom does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. (James 3: 15) Those who are wise must finally die, just like the foolish and senseless, leaving all their wealth behind. The grave is their eternal home, where they will stay forever. They may name their estates after themselves, but their fame will not last. They will die, just like animals. This is the fate of fools, though they are remembered as being wise. (Psalm 49 6-13)
Precious LORD, do not hold back Your tender mercies from America. Let Your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect us. Bring revival to Your Church. All the paths of the LORD are lovingkindness and truth to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies. (Ps. 25: 10) May Your Church be filled with joy and gladness. May those who love Your salvation repeatedly shout, “The LORD is great!” LORD, keep us in Your thoughts. You are our helper and our savior. You are the King over all the earth. (Psalm 47: 7; Psalm 63: 4)
We beseech You, give us a national leader who fears the LORD and serves and obeys You and does not rebel against Your commands. It will go well for us if we and the king who reigns over us follows the LORD our God. (1 Samuel 12: 14) We need a man like David who seeks after Your heart. We come to You as children purchased by the blood of Your Son. We pray that our next President (and Vice President) will become an instrument of righteousness, a living sacrifice, that he may glorify You in his body. We ask, in Your great mercy, to appoint a man to lead our nation whom You will fill with Your life giving Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
“The power of God Almighty is the power that can properly and strictly be called supreme and absolute. In the order of nature, under Him comes the power of a simple democracy.” (James Otis, lawyer and member of the Massachusetts Provincial Assembly, His catchphrase “Taxation without Representation is Tyranny” became the basic Patriot position.)
The People of Alaska, grateful to God and to those who founded our nation and pioneered this great land, in order to secure and transmit to succeeding generations our heritage of political, civil, and religious liberty within the Union of States, do ordain and establish this constitution for the State of Alaska. (Preamble to the Constitution of Alaska)
