Fifty Days of Prayer for the National Election 2012 – Day 28

Day 28 October 15th
Focus: Party Platforms
Pray today for the “independents” who are neither hot nor cold.
If there is one thing the two parties agree on this year, it is the size of the chasm that divides them on so many issues. The Democratic platform relates that “this election is not simply a choice between two candidates or two political parties, but between two fundamentally different paths for our country and our families.” The Republican platform calls the 2012 elections “a referendum on the future of liberty in America.”
Most Holy and Righteous God,
Both parties hold some positions that are commendable in Your sight. However, there are also positions that are detestable to You.  We will not compromise biblical principles!  Father, we will not vote according to Party affiliation. Rather, we will vote for those men and women who represent Your values and who promote religious liberty. We will support those candidates who allow the Gospel to be heard freely in our land.
You have said, “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” (Deut. 30: 19)  We have been warned through Your Word that if serving You seems undesirable, then we must choose for ourselves this day whom we will serve, whether the gods our forefathers served, or the gods in whose land we are living. May it be found that the Church of Jesus Christ ~ each man and each household ~ proclaims: “We will serve the LORD!”   (Joshua 24: 15)

For those who do not choose to serve You, they will call to You but You will not answer; they will look for You but will not find You. Since they hate knowledge and do not choose to fear the LORD, since they will not accept Your advice and spurn Your rebuke, they will eat the fruit of their ways and they will be filled with the fruit of their schemes.  (Prov. 1: 28-31)  For You know the deeds of every man, and You are displeased with those who are neither cold nor hot. You wish that every man were either one or the other! And those who cannot choose, those who are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—You are about to spit them out of Your mouth.  (Rev. 3: 15-16)   Have mercy on us, Lord. Have mercy on Your Church, we pray.

Our world claims that there is no standard by which to distinguish good from evil. You, however, have established what is good and what is evil in Your sight. At the beginning of humankind, You, the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”  (Gen. 3: 22)  You also saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.  (Gen 6: 5)   All through history the kings of Israel did evil in Your sight and walked in the way of their fathers and in their fathers’ sin, and their evil ways made Israel sin.  (1 Kings 15: 26)  They did evil because they had not set their hearts on seeking the LORD(2 Chron. 12: 14)  Even while they were in their kingdom, enjoying Your great goodness to them in the spacious and fertile land You gave them, they did not serve You or turn from their evil ways.  (Neh. 9: 35)
We pray that all followers of Jesus Christ will do what is right, and therefore, will be accepted. For if we do not do what is right in Your sight, sin is crouching at our door; sin desires to have us, but we must master it. (Gen. 4: 7)  You have chosen us so that we will direct our children and our households after us to keep Your way by doing what is right and just.  (Gen. 18: 19)   Help us to be careful to obey all the regulations You have given us, so that it may always go well with us and our children, because we will be doing what is good and right in the eyes of the LORD our God. (Deut. 12: 28)   Help us to obey You by keeping all Your commands that You give us today and by doing what is right in Your eyes.  (Deut. 13: 18)  We pray that we will fear You, for that is wisdom; we pray that we will shun evil, for that is understanding.   (Job 28: 28)  You will guide us in paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake.  (Psalm 23: 3)  Open the eyes of Your Church so that we will know that You distinguish between good and evil. We pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
“We confess and bewail our manifold sins and transgressions, and by a sincere repentance and amendment of life, appease His righteous displeasure, and through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ obtain His pardon and forgiveness ~ that He would be pleased to bless all His people with health and plenty, and grant that a spirit of incorruptible patriotism, and all pure undefiled religion, may universally prevail. Amen.”
(William Livingston, Governor of New Jersey during the Revolutionary War and signer of the U.S. Constitution.)
We the people of the State of Nevada, Grateful to Almighty God for our freedom in order to secure its blessings, insure domestic tranquility, and form a more perfect Government, do establish this Constitution. (Preamble to the Constitution of Nevada)

Some key Senate races to continue to pray about…
Arizona – Polls continue to show physician Democrat Richard Carmona in a close race with GOP Rep. Jeff Flake. Dem. Carmona was recruited by Obama to run for the Senate. Flake is a fiscal conservative who has earned a reputation for bucking his party.
Maine – Independent former governor Angus King started this race as the heavy favorite. Negative GOP ads against King have moved Republican GOP Secretary of State Charlie Summers into serious contention.
North Dakota – Former state attorney general Heidi Heitkamp has turned into one of the best Democratic recruits of the year, putting in play a state that was thought to be solidly in the GOP’s column. The GOP nominee, freshman Rep. Rick Berg, isn’t getting such sterling reviews.
Virginia – Polling shows Democrat Timothy M. Kaine jumping to a lead over former senator George Allen (R).
Montana – Sen. Jon Tester (D) and Rep. Denny Rehberg (R) have always been within a few points of each other. Republicans have tried to tie Tester to Obama, while Democrats have attacked Rehberg as a lobbyist and for suing his local fire department after a wildfire damaged his property.
Indiana – Richard Mourdock’s upset of Sen. Richard G. Lugar in the state’s GOP Senate primary opened the door for Democrats in a state that is expected to go Republican at the presidential level. Rep. Joe Donnelly (D) has won in a tough House district before.
Massachusetts – The country’s most high-profile Senate race pits former Obama adviser Elizabeth Warren (D) against Sen. Scott Brown (R).
Wisconsin – Former GOP governor Tommy Thompson is attempting a political comeback against Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D) Look for Republicans to focus on Baldwin’s record as one of the most liberal members of Congress.
Nevada – Appointed Sen. Dean Heller (R) appears to be a slight favorite to retain the seat forfeited by disgraced former senator John Ensign (R).. Nevada is a swing state at the presidential level, and Democratic nominee Shelley Berkley is a favorite of Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D).
Connecticut – Linda McMahon (R) is in a close race with Rep. Chris Murphy (D), despite Connecticut’s Democratic tendencies. McMahon, whose wrestling empire has been tainted by scandal, is trying to build a personal brand separate from her wrestling identity.
Ask our Heavenly Father to impart insight to all voters in this coming election. Pray that there will be increased understanding in what is at stake and risk by this election. Pray for righteous leadership to spring forth from these senatorial elections.
