Fifty Days of Prayer for the National Election 2012 – Day 36

Day 36 October 23
Focus: Early Voting
Ultimately, whatever the area of prayer emphasis, we must always come back to the purposes of God. Jesus taught us to pray, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven.” (Mt. 6:10) As we pray for something as important as the national elections, we must lay down our own desires and take up the desires of God. What we truly desire is for the Lord’s purposes to be achieved in and through our nation. All of our requests must be couched in words and thoughts that focus our hearts on the Kingdom of God.
  • ·       Pray today for the purposes of God to be accomplished in the U.S. elections.
  • ·       Pray that the U.S. will turn and seek first the Kingdom of God.
  • ·       Pray that God will be honored in the midst of this election campaign.
  • ·       Pray for opportunities for Christians to share their faith and their values in the midst of this election process.
  • ·       Pray that the results of the 2012 elections will please the Lord and release His blessing over this nation.
In the meanwhile, when so many thousands of the people had gathered that they were trampling on one another, Jesus commenced by saying primarily to His disciples, “Be on your guard against the leaven (ferment) of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy, producing unrest and violent agitation. Nothing is so closely covered up that it will not be revealed, or hidden that it will not be known. Whatever you have spoken in the darkness shall be heard and listened to in the light, and what you have whispered in people’s ears and behind closed doors will be proclaimed upon the housetops.” Luke 12: 1-3
 Almighty God,
You are able to reveal what is truth and what is hypocrisy. You are able to spread truth among Your people. We pray that You will bring to light the things the American voter needs to know so that the citizens of this nation may vote in line with Your plan, Your will, and Your purpose for the earth. May things not only come to light for the Christian community, but may things be made clear to the unbelieving community as well. We pray that what is righteous would be so clear that even unbelievers would vote using wisdom and demanding honesty and uprightness from their politicians.
Have mercy on us. In the Name of Jesus, may the citizens of our nation become so weary of sin and degradation in our nation’s leaders that they will seek out godly leaders to represent us at every level of government. Give such leaders favor with the public and with the media. We do not take lightly what You have done in our nation. We appreciate not only the right but the privilege we have to vote. We pray that every citizen will use that privilege wisely, seeking Your will as we consider the qualifications of those for whom we are to vote.
We pray for the Body of Christ that we will see the right to vote as a gift from Your hand and will avail ourselves of this opportunity. Stir Your people, O God, to stand. May there arise such a force of righteousness in our electoral system that it would affect every realm and level of government in America.
We pray in Jesus’ Name that the powerful of our nation would gain a profound respect not only for the political strength of the Christian community, but for our spiritual influence in our nation as well. Apart from You, the leadership of this nation can do nothing. We pray this is the Name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
“While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the highest duties of religion. To the distinguished character of patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian. The signal instances of providential goodness which we have experienced and which have now almost crowned our labors with complete success demand from us the warmest returns of gratitude and piety to the Supreme Author of all Good.”   (George Washington to the Continental Army)
Invoking the guidance of Almighty God, in order to secure and perpetuate the blessing of liberty; to secure just and rightful government; to promote our mutual welfare and happiness, we, the people of the State of Oklahoma, do ordain and establish this Constitution.  (Preamble to the Constitution of Oklahoma)
