Praying Daily for the Elections – Day 44 – 10/31/2012

Fifty Days of Prayer for the National Election 2012 – Day 44
Heavenly Father, we begin this day seeking Your forgiveness for our nation which has gone overboard in celebrating Halloween. Not too many years ago, the season simply consisted of store displays of cute goblins and ghouls, carved pumpkins and “trick or treat” paraphernalia, and carnivals for bobbing apples and donning costumes. Halloween has turned into a season of vile and violent movies, demonic displays, and fiendish activities. Forgive us, Father, for indulging in any way in the promotion of a festival that glorifies our enemy. You died on a Cross to rescue us from Satan’s temptations which lead to death. We were living in darkness until You revealed to us a great light; we were living in the land of the shadow of death when a light dawned. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” And, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should stay in darkness.” Paul wrote, “You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. You do not belong to the night or to the darkness.” Peter said, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”
We hunger to see You at work in America. It is our deepest desire to see You triumph in our nation. With utter shamelessness and urgency, we press our request for revival. May Your heart, Your hand, Your infinite power, and Your infinite willingness hear our cries and give to Your children an undivided heart and a new spirit; remove from us our hearts of stone and give us hearts of flesh. (Ezekiel 11: 19; 36:26) You are stirring the deepest forces of our souls toward the throne of heavenly grace. We are holding on, pressing on, and waiting. We feel that inwrought force, implanted and aroused by the Holy Spirit – the intercession of the Spirit of God within us. Today we proclaim over the United States of America: “Our God reigns!”
Today’s Prayer Focus: The Future
O LORD, You are our God; we will exalt You and praise Your name, for in perfect faithfulness You have done marvelous things, things planned long ago. Isaiah 25:1
Almighty God and Creator of all things,
You have always had a plan in mind for all of mankind. You appointed man to be saved in keeping with Your purpose. You predestined us to be adopted as Your sons and daughters through Jesus Christ, in accordance with Your pleasure and will. (Ephesians 1: 5) It will all come about when history has been completed. You will then bring together all things in heaven and on earth under one ruler. That ruler is Christ. You want all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Tim. 2: 3-4) Thank You that in all things You work for the good of those who love You. (Rom. 8 : 28)
You have promised that whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, You will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between You and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. (Gen 9: 16) You have made an everlasting covenant with us, arranged and secured in every part. You will bring to fruition our salvation. (2 Sam 23: 5) Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet Your unfailing love for us will not be shaken nor Your covenant of peace be removed. (Isaiah 54: 10) In that day we will say, “Surely this is our God; we trusted in Him, and He saved us. This is the LORD, we trusted in Him; let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.” (Isaiah 25: 9)
You see all and You know all. You rule over history and time yet You are neither bound nor governed by them. You are sovereign and You know both the beginning and the end of history—they are Yours! Praise be to the name of God forever and ever; wisdom and power are Yours. You change times and season; You set up kings and depose them. You give wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. You reveal deep and hidden things; You know what lies in darkness, and light dwells with You. (Daniel 2:20-22) O God, Your will is perfect and supreme over all things.
We will not worry regarding the outcome of this election. Surely there is a future, and our hope will not be cut off. (Prov. 23: 18) You have plans for us; plans for welfare and not for calamity to give us a future and a hope. (Jer. 29: 11) We will store up for ourselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that we may take hold of that which is life indeed. We will guard what has been entrusted to us, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge.” (1 Timothy 6:19-20)
We lift up the candidates for the Office of the President asking for one man to be elected who will earnestly seek Your will as he leads. May he receive his plans, visions and initiatives from You, in accordance with Your laws and principles. We ask that You bring joy and blessing to our country through the godly leaders who are elected next week at every level of government. Some who follow You are said “not to have a chance.” We do not rely on chance; we rely on El Hanne’eman – Faithful God, Jehovah Jireh – the Lord Who provides. Have mercy on us. Do not give us what we deserve, but in Your great compassion, bring us leaders who will govern with the single intention of serving You with fear and trembling. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
“Before any man can be considered as a member of civil society, he must be considered as a subject of the Governor of the Universe. And to the same Divine Author of every good and perfect gift we are indebted for all those privileges and advantages, religious as well as civil, which are so richly enjoyed in this favored land.” (James Monroe, 5th President)
