Nativity Chronology – Day 8

Untitled-1Luke 1:26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”

Six months after the conception of John the angel Gabriel was sent to the city of Nazareth in Galilee. Galilee was often called Galilee of the Gentiles and was not held in high regard by Jews of that day. The angel appeared to Mary who was a virgin promised to Joseph for marriage. It is recorded that Mary was of the House of David and as long as the promise of Messiah was expected it was worth tracking the lineage of David because the Messiah was to come from the line of David (2 Sam 7:12-13). Mary was greatly blessed because she was about to receive the news that she was chosen to give birth to the Son of God, the Messiah whom had been promised from long ago.

Nativity Chronology – Day 7

Untitled-1Luke 1: 11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.

As Zacharias finally had his moment in the temple, suddenly an angel appeared. Fear fell on Zacharias at this awesome sight but the angel comforted him. Zacharias most likely had prayed for a son but perhaps at that moment he was praying for the redemption of Israel. Both of those prayers were being answered as God was sending the forerunner for the Messiah. Elizabeth was going to bear a son, and name him John. John means “God is gracious.” God was about to demonstrate the immensity of the dimensions of His grace to Israel and to the world.
