According to a new study from Barna, Millennials in the U.S. are sharing Christ more than any other generation. The Millennial generation is the generation born after 1980. “By a previous generation’s standards, they seem low-key, a little disengaged or disinterested,” notes Greg Jao with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. “But when you actually watch their behavior, you begin to see the Millennial generation … is highly engaged with their faith.”

Nativity Chronology – Day 11

Untitled-1Luke 1:34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.

Mary understood that the angel Gabriel was not talking about the eventual children that she would have after her marriage to Joseph. She knew that the angel was talking about something miraculous which was birth without an earthly father being involved in the process. The angel explained that the baby would be conceived miraculously by the power of the Holy Spirit. So that even greater then being the Son of David, the Messiah would be the Son of God. The angel points to Elizabeth miraculous pregnancy in her advanced age to encourage Mary’s faith, as God is a God of miracles.

Nativity Chronology – Day 10

Untitled-1Luke 1: 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

Jesus is given many titles by the angel Gabriel. He is called Great, the Son of the Highest, the successor to the throne of David, Ruler over the house of Jacob forever, and King over a Kingdom that will never end. The Kingdom of God was about to be put on full display in the life of Jesus and all of heaven and earth is waiting in expectation.

Nativity Chronology – Day 9

Untitled-1Luke 1:29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.

Anyone would be troubled if an angel were to show up and interrupt their daily routine. So of course Mary was troubled and puzzled to receive such a greeting from the angel Gabriel. The angel told her not to fear and that she had found favor or grace with God. The grace of God is not something that comes from within Mary but is something God gives her. Mary is told that she will be with a Child, a Son, and to name Him Jesus which means “God is salvation.”
